| 6308 | UNION – Philip D. Hilt, Sr., 62, died following an extended illness, Thursday, September 21, 2006 at Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport. Born in Rockland, August 23, 1944, he was the son of Donald, Sr. and Athelene Tibbits Hilt. Philip was educated in Union schools. On November 15, 1969 Philip married Ruthie A. Horsley in Thomaston. The couple enjoyed yardsaleing together taking every opportunity they could to find roadside bargains. Predeceased by his mother-in-law Dorothy Horsley, Philip is survived by his parents Donald, Sr. and Athelene Hilt of Union, his wife Ruthie Hilt of Union; his two sons, Glen T. Hilt and his wife Melissa of Bath, Philip D. Hilt, Jr. and his companion Suzanne Brown of Camden; his daughter Amy Stelzer and her husband Larry of Jefferson; his sister Diane Poland and her husband Richard of Rond Pond; five brothers, Donald Hilt, Jr. and his wife Margaret of Rockland, Sherwood Hilt and his wife Barbara, Keith Hilt and his wife Debra, David Hilt and his companion Michelle Upton all of Union, Benjamin Hilt and his wife Chrissy of Hope; seven grandchildren, Alexia Hilt of Friendship, Isabell Hilt of Bath, Mckenzie Hilt, Tanner Hilt, Kristina Brown all of Camden, Kiya and Eilee Stelzer both of Jefferson; one uncle Neil Hilt and his wife Gail of Surfside Beach, South Carolina; five brothers-in-law and their wives, Roland and Eunice Weaver of Watertown, New York, Francis Weaver and his wife Patricia of Floral City, Florida, Richard and Astrid Weaver of St. George, Galen Weaver of Holland, Kentucky, Skippy and Rugna Weaver of St. George; four sisters-in-law Katharen Weymoth of St. George, Betty Small of Warren, Linda Taylor and her husband Larry of Thomaston, Priscilla Dugas of Spruce Head, and a special friend Mervyn Mank, Bill Bennett, as well as many nieces and nephews. The familiy would like to give a special thank-you to Alielia Hilt-Lash for being with them in all the difficult times. Interment will be in East Union Cemetery. | 6338 | US ARMY - WORLD WAR II FARMINGDALE - Kenneth T. Mank, 86, passed away Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, at the MaineGeneral Rehabilitation Center at Glenridge. He was born in Gardiner on Oct. 5, 1925, the son of Millard and Gladys Creamer Mank. He graduated from Gardiner High School in 1944 and enlisted in the Army. Ken was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He served in the headquarters company, 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, the 4th Infantry Division. He participated in the battles of Rhineland, Ardennes and central Europe. He received the combat infantry badge, American Theater Campaign Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. In 1948, he married Arlene D. Higgins of Augusta. Ken was employed for more than 30 years at the Veterans Affairs hospital at Togus, working in the personnel and veterans service departments. He is a member of the Penney Memorial Baptist Church in Augusta. He was a former member of Winter Street Baptist Church in Gardiner for many years, having been the church treasurer, a member of the evening choir and board of trustees member. Ken's lifelong joy was playing the clarinet. Kenneth was predeceased by his parents and his beloved wife of nearly 63 years. He is survived by daughter Patricia Guild and husband Walter of Farmingdale; son Richard Mank and wife Joan of West Gardiner; daughter Judith Mank of Winthrop; sisters-in-law Madelyn Hunt of Gorham and Ruth Jones of Weeks Mills; grandson Michael Mank and wife Ruth and great-grandson Joseph, all of Virginia; grandson Matthew Mank and wife Alissa of Augusta; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends.
