| 6551 | William Francis Crowden, 81, of Irving, TX, formerly of River Forest, IL, passed away on 2/15/13 in Irving, TX. He was born 4/25/31 in Chicago, IL., son of the late William M. and Noreen (Lamb) Crowden. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Brooke (Ludwig) Crowden of Irving, TX, daughter, Marguerite Crowden and son Will Crowden, both of Chicago, IL. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Santilli (nee. Crowden) of Henderson, NV; brother, John (Kirsten) Crowden of Woodstock, IL, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. William was the owner of Drums Ltd. and later Frank's Drum Shop in Chicago, IL, the two most renowned music retail locations in the Midwest. His customers included world famous drummers Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, Max Roach, Elvin Jones, Joe Morello, and countless other percussionists from around the globe. Services will be private. William died 17 Mar 1984. He always wanted a bicycle, so at the age of 2 days old he started pedalling but he never got the bicycle. Bill got all of his education in a one room school and graduated with a diploma of hard knocks. He worked on a farm for uncle Henry and aunt Hulda. He drove a fine little sorrel mare, and a spiffy buggy, he was the envy of those had to drive cars. Bill and Edna started farming in Sylvester Township, they farmed for many years. They resided at 2120, 18th St., Monroe. Bill also spends much time in California after Edna's passing. Since moving to Monroe he has a hobby of making many lovely toy wagons. | 6553 | William Gleason Obituary Appleton - APPLETON - William "Bill" Thurston Gleason, 88, died peacefully Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, surrounded by his family at his home Thursday. Born Feb. 21, 1924, in Union, he was the son of William C. and Margaret Thurston Gleason. Bill grew up on his family's Union farm where he learned a strong work ethic and was schooled in the necessity of "a Yankee ingenuity," necessary to survive during those depression years. He attended Union schools and was a 1942 graduate of Union High School. During his high school years, Bill was a multi-sport athlete, participating in basketball, baseball and skiing. He excelled at ski-jumping and was never defeated in the cross-country ski competition. On Sept. 11, 1949, he married Rosalie A. Mank, in Union. Upon graduating, Bill entered the U.S. Army, and after basic training at Fort Hood, Texas, he served with the 45th Infantry Division. He was actively involved with that division in the invasion of France and Germany, and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. Returning to civilian life, he enrolled in the University of Maine at Orono, where he earned a degree in Education. While in high school and prior to his military service, Bill worked with Grevis Payson Trucking in Union. After graduating from the University of Maine he returned to employment with that trucking company. In 1953, Bill's grandfather, Wilbur Thurston, asked Bill to help out at Thurston Brothers Casket Factory, Union. He never left that business, which for a time included Thurston Brothers Transportation, serving as president until his death. Throughout the years, he supplied burial caskets to funeral homes throughout New England and enjoyed friendships with many of the funeral directors he met. Bill regularly made deliveries to the funeral homes himself and was often accompanied by his wife, Rosalie. For six years, he served as coach of Appleton High School boy's basketball team. Bill supported athletics in area schools and was a mentor to many students including his own grandchildren. A registered Maine guide, Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing and skiing, as well as gardening. He took great pleasure in often sharing the bounty of his gardens with friends and family. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Storer-Collins-Harding American Legion Post No. 110, Union. Other than his parents, Bill was predeceased by two sisters, Eleanor McAllister and Dorothy Peckham. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rosalie of Appleton; son, Craig T. Gleason and wife, Gail, of Union; brother, Richard Gleason and wife, Bernice, of Union and Florida; three grandchildren, Carrie R. Gleason of Maine Maritime Academy cadet of Union, Nicole E. Glidden of Memphis, Tenn., Jon-David Thurston Gleason of Union; three stepgrandchildren, Harmonie Hagerman of Gardiner, Lt. Autumn Ridell of Tamuning, Quam, and Forrest Hagerman of Camden; two great-grandchildren, Ava Elizabeth Gleason and Kelsey Elizabeth Glidden; two great-stepgrandchildren, Maize Grace Hagerman and Delia Autumn Trott; as well as many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to visit 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland, where a memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday with Pastor Mark Adolphsen officiating. A reception will be at 104 Limerock St.. Private family interment with military honors, will be at Pine Grove Cemetery, Appleton. During the year 1890, at Hamilton, seat of Butler County, Ohio, William H. Richardson wed Katherine May ("Katie") Lotz who was born on February 9, 1875, to German immigrant Herman E. Lotz (1849-1910), born in Aßlar, Kreis Wetzlar, in the Kingdom of Prussia (today's Kreis Land-Dill, Hessen, Germany) and to Mary G. Lotz Brown (1858-1936), born in Pennsylvania to German immigrants, Phillip Willliam Schneider (1829-1906) and Helene Wilhelmina ("Mina") (Lotz) Schneider (1832 to circa 1864), the eldest of the six daughters and three sons born to Wilhelm Lotz (1807-1878) and Magdalena ("Maggie") (Lotz) Lotz (1806-1890) in Aßlar, Kreis Wetzlar, in the Kingdom of Prussia (today’s Aßlar, Lahn-Dill-Kreis, Hessen, Germany). | RICHARDSON, William H. | 6555 | William Kolb besuchte die Universität Heidelberg & 2 Tage nach Ostern 1851 segelte er nach Amerika und landete 46 Tage später in New York, bevor er zur Vorbereitungsschule unserer Gemeinde in Milwaukee ging. Sein akademischer Standard übertraf die dortigen Studenten bei weitem, also ging er zum Priesterseminar in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Seine erste Predigt hielt er am Pfingstsonntag 1852 in Wille County, Iowa. Im selben Jahr unternahm er seine erste Reise nach Chicago, wo er seine zukünftige Frau, Anna Elizabeth Ganz, geboren 1833 und gestorben 1923, kennenlernte. Sie heirateten am 14. März 1853. Ihr erster forn Sohn war Theodore Johann Kolb in Adams County, Indiana am 4. Mai 1854. William Kolfs nächste Versammlung war in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin. 1868 zog sie sich aus gesundheitlichen Gründen von dort zurück und zog nach Niles, Illinois. Als William Kolb in den Ruhestand ging, kaufte er 60 Morgen Land an der Milwaukee Avenue in Niles von seinem Cousin H. W. Rincker, und 1872 kaufte Frau W. Kolb weitere 20 Morgen von ihm für 4.000,00 $. Herr Rincker hatte es den Indianern abgekauft. 1874 kaufte Frau Kolb 15 Morgen für 2.700,00 $. 1885 wurde 1/2 von F. Ebinger und 1889 ein Grundstück von Christian Meyer gekauft, alle angrenzend. William Kolb war zusammen mit seinen Söhnen Theodore und Martin in der Landwirtschaft tätig. Sr. and Verna Mae (Campbell) Warner. William retired from Beckett Paper Company. He married Deborah Cropenbaker in Hamilton in 1969. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Warner; four children, William P. (Brandi Carr) Warner III, Michael J. (Shawna) Warner, Douglas R. (Karen) Warner, and Amanda J. (Jamie Nix) Warner; six grandchildren, Braden, Allysen, Noah, Jaden, Grace, and Anna Warner; and three sisters, Joyce L. (Les) Johnson, Janet L. Berger, and Judy L. (Glen) Riddell. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1285 Main Street, on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Kevin Jud officiating. | 6559 | William Winfield (Bill) Martin aus Findlay, Ohio, ehemaliger Industriemanager und Leiter mehrerer Berufs- und Wohltätigkeitsgruppen, starb am 24. Januar 2012 im Heritage Manor. Er war 94 Jahre alt und sein Gesundheitszustand verschlechterte sich seit mehreren Monaten. Bill wurde am 15. Oktober 1917 in East Liverpool, Ohio, als Sohn von William McKinley und Edith (Bennett) Martin geboren. Sein Vater starb unerwartet, als Bill fünf Jahre alt war. Danach arbeitete seine Mutter für 15 Cent pro Stunde, um die Familie zu ernähren, und Bill arbeitete im Laufe der Jahre in mehreren Gelegenheitsjobs, um im Haushalt zu helfen. | 6560 | WILLIAMSBURG - Richard Marshall Ludwig, of Williamsburg, Va., 88, died Dec. 19, 2019. He was the son of Edward Ingraham and Florence Marshall Ludwig, both deceased. A native of Gardiner, he was a chemical engineering graduate of the University of Maine. He pursued a career in the pulp and paper industry prior to his retirement in 1993 from International Paper Co., where he had been vice president of engineering and logistics. Before that, he had been a long-time executive with Hammermill Paper Co. of Erie, Pa., until the merger of that firm with International Paper in 1986. Mr. Ludwig, a life-long Episcopalian, was most recently a member of Bruton Parish Church in Williamsburg. He was active in the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry (TAPPI), having served as a national director, was elected a TAPPI Fellow, and was the recipient of a Leadership and Service Award by that organization. He was also a former president of the Board of the Erie (Pa.) Philharmonic Orchestra. He was the former chairman of the Membership and Gifts and Bequests Committees of the University of Maine Pulp and Paper Foundation. He was a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants in the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Virginia Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, and had been director of the Colonial Capital Branch of the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities (A.P.V.A.) in Williamsburg. A history buff, he was a volunteer interpreter at Colonial National Historic Park in Yorktown, Va., Historic Jamestown for Preservation Virginia, and a concert usher and historic guide at Bruton Parish Church in Williamsburg. He was a member and treasurer of the residents council and president of the computer club at Williamsburg Landing, Inc., the retirement community where he and his wife Margery had lived since 2004. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Margery Carter Williams Ludwig; three daughters, Madge Ludwig of Centre Hall, Pa., Helen Nelson Ludwig and her fiancé, Stephen Spence of Charlottesville, Va., and Elizabeth Marshall Ludwig Radovsky of Mechanicsville, Va.; three granddaughters, Ariana Moussavi, Jamie Marshall Williams, and Sarah and her husband Viktor Osipov; as well as two great-grandchildren, Olivia Ariana Ludwig and Dylan Carter Ludwig; two sisters Mary Ludwig DeBoer of Lacey, Wash., and Helen Ludwig Jiracek of St. Michael, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews. A brother, Edward Arthur Ludwig, and his wife, Nancy Loomis Schneller Ludwig, of Thomaston, died in 2018. Richard was greatly loved by them all. No memorial service will be held, with burial at Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, Va. at a later date. He was born September 19, 1924 in Dayton, OH to the late Willis W. and Helen (Hapner) Flora. He was a lifelong resident of Eaton and longtime Preble County Farmer; he was an Army Veteran who served during WWII where he received the Purple Heart; and he was a member of the Eaton United Church of Christ, Eaton, OH. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Marie L. | 6562 | WILLIS, Geraldine (Jerre) Age 74, of Hamilton, died Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at 5:43 a.m. at Ft. Hamilton Hospital. She was born in Hamilton the daughter of Raymond and Helen (Lotz) Thieman. She was a graduate of Hamilton High School and received a BA degree in English at Miami University. On October 18, 1952, she married Richard T. Willis in Hamilton, he preceded her in death in 1990. She was a kindergarten, first, and third grade teacher. She began her teaching career at Holy Cross Lutheran Church School, Polk Elementary and Fillmore Elementary where she retired. She was a member of the Park Avenue United Methodist Church, a member of The Friendly Divers Circle and Bible Study Groups. She was past president and member of the Metropolitan Womens Club, past president and member of AAUW , a foundling member of the New London Hills Club, a member of the Kindergarten Screening Team and an avid bridge player, playing with several bridge groups. She was a recipient of "Teacher of the Year" in 1991-1992 at Fillmore Elementary and was a recipient of a proclamation from the mayor proclaiming "Jerre Willis Day in Hamilton" in 1994. Jerre was also a member and swimmer of Westovers Bever Wellness Center. She was a volunteer at Ft. Hamilton Hospital, Westover Retirement Community, Heritage Elementary and was a member of Westover Service Guild. She is survived by her son, Andy Willis and wife Kristen of West Chester and her daughter, Linda Willis of Port Clinton, Ohio and two grandchildren, Richard and Kathryn Willis. Funeral service will be held Friday, May 13, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at the at Weigel Funeral Home, with Rev. John Eshelman officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park. | 6567 | WINSLOW - Richard "Dick" Eugene Grenier, 83, passed away on May 17, 2019, at Goudreau's Retirement Inn in Winslow. He was born March 9, 1936, in Waterville, the son of Wilbrod and Cecile (Libby) Grenier.He was educated in Waterville and Winslow schools, class of 1953. He was a veteran who proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps from 1955 to his honorable discharge in 1957. Dick was employed by Keyes Fibre for 32 years. He was a member of the American Legion in Waterville. He enjoyed camping at Cathedral Pines for 50 years where he met many new friends who became his camp family and even naming a road to honor him. He loved driving the back roads and going to Big Jim. In his younger days he was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and other outdoor activities. He enjoyed spending time with his families and was very proud of his two granddaughters, Stasha and Tia, who enlisted and graduated as Master Sargent from the Young Marines. He is survived by his sister, RaeJean (Grenier) Beane and her partner Dickie Pullen and three nephews Richard, Rusty and Roger all of the Bingham area; two stepsisters, Theresa and George Savage of Sidney and Alice and Skip Sherburne of Milfred; one uncle, Raymond Grenier of Winslow; his five daughters Dawn Bilodeau of Boynton Beach, Fla., Tammy and Buster Hopkins of Plymouth, Maine, Catharine Nelson of Canaan, Connie and Red Laliberte of Sidney and Lori Barnard of Winslow; his nine grandchildren April McCaslin of Randolph, Nicole Grenier of Newport, Tyler Chase of Lisbon Falls, Patricia and Christopher Gutierrez of Owensboro, KY, Sister Christina Marie of Valley of Our Lady Monastery in Prairie du Sac, Wisc., Elizabeth Nelson of Canaan, Keisha Baldwin of Skowhegan, Tia Baldwin of Winslow and Stasha Baldwin of Sidney; and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 38 years, Dianne; his parents Wilbrod and Cecile, his stepfather, Lionel (Ned) Betit; a daughter, Cynthia and his son-in-laws Paul Bilodeau and Ronald Nelson. He was born in Appleton on July 29, 1934, the son of Elwin and Mary (Meservey) Mank. Frank attended Appleton schools, graduating from Appleton High School. He worked doing various jobs, retiring as a manager for the state of Maine. Frank was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and bird watching. He belonged to several snowmobile clubs and was active in camper groups. While living in Washington, he was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department. For the past 10 years he has lived in Winslow and spent winters in Zephyrhills, Fla. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Christine (Chapman) Mank. Surviving are a son, Timothy A. | 6569 | WINTERPORT - Linda M. Montgomery, 72, died of cancer on May 15, 2016, at a Bangor healthcare facility. She was born July 15, 1943, in Portland, ME to Linwood Hammond and Edwina (Hackett) Fletcher. Linda was a graduate of Hampden Academy, Class of 1961. She taught horseback riding lessons for many years. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, camping, fishing, horseback riding, knitting, and visiting with friends. Linda was predeceased by her parents; stepfather Cliff Fletcher; brothers, William and Donald Hammond. Higgins and Minnie (Webber) Higgins. She graduated from Cony High School in 1944. In 1948, she married Kenneth T. Mank of Farmingdale. She worked for Gardiner Oil for 10 years and as a Secretary for the VA Medical Center at Togus for many years. She was a former member of Winter Street Baptist Church. At her death, she was again a member of the Penney Memorial United Baptist Church, where she had attended as a child and started her married life. Arlene was predeceased by her infant sister, Constance, and sisters Evelyn Jewell, Rachel Whittier and Beverly Burton. She is survived by her beloved husband, Kenneth T. Mank, of Winthrop; daughter Patricia and husband Walter Guild of Farmingdale; son Richard and wife Joan of West Gardiner; daughter Judith A. Mank of Winthrop; sisters Madelyn Hunt of Gorham, and Ruth Jones of Weeks Mills; grandson Michael and wife Ruth, and great-grandson Joseph of Virginia; grandson Matthew and wife Alissa of Augusta; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends. | 6571 | WINTHROP - Steven Robert Winchenbach, 73, aus Winthrop, ist am 23. November 2018 verstorben. Nach einem langen Kampf gegen Demenz und Morbus Wegener erlag er schließlich seiner Krankheit. Steve wurde am 9. Oktober 1945 als Sohn von Robert und Flora Winchenbach in Rockport geboren. Als Kind, das gegen Hirnkrebs kämpfte, war er als „Little Stevie“ bekannt, überlebte aber nach langem Kampf und der Unterstützung seiner Gemeinde wie durch ein Wunder. Er machte 1963 seinen Abschluss an der Rockland District High School und besuchte anschließend das Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute. Als aktiver Pfadfinder pflegte Steve seine Liebe zum Jagen, Campen und Angeln. Als Erwachsener arbeitete Steve auf dem Bau, für die Tischlerei seines Vaters und bei Snap-On Tools, bevor er Wink's Mini-Mart in Livermore, Maine, eröffnete. Steve arbeitete weiterhin als Tischlermeister und später als Wartungsleiter bei Androscoggin Home Health, bis er 2012 in den Ruhestand ging. Er widmete sich weiterhin seinen Hobbys, der Holzbearbeitung, dem Puzzeln, dem Modellieren und dem Spielen mit seinem Hund Kaylee, bevor er in ein betreutes Wohnen zog. Steve hinterlässt seinen Sohn Todd und seine Frau Deena mit den Enkelinnen Ava und Leah aus New York, zwei Schwestern, Elaine mit den Söhnen Alan und Kevin und Linda mit den Töchtern Marianne, Kathy und Rachel, alle aus Maine, seine beiden Tanten Doris Prock und Jean Winslow sowie weitere Nichten und Neffen und seine Ex-Frau Beverly, mit der er 31 Jahre lang verheiratet war. Vor Steven starben bereits seine Eltern Robert und Flora, seine Schwester Cheryl, sein Bruder Bruce und seine zweite Frau Shirley Ann Dudley. Die Trauerfeier fand im Gracelawn Memorial Park statt. Warren hatte eine lange und abwechslungsreiche berufliche Laufbahn, beginnend mit seinem ersten Job in den späten 50er Jahren bei Guilford & Co. bis hin zu T.P. Caulkin, H.A. Loomer und John Wood Ltd. Warren war sechzehn Jahre lang bei diesem in Toronto ansässigen Unternehmen für gewerbliche Warmwasserbereiter beschäftigt und wurde zum Bezirksleiter befördert. Danach arbeitete er 12 Jahre lang für die Dartmouth Marine Shipyard und ging in den Ruhestand, nachdem er 8 Jahre lang für Bob's/Bluebell Taxi Co gefahren war. Warren war ein geselliger Mensch, lebenslustig, großzügig und immer bereit, eine helfende Hand zu reichen. Warren war an der Förderung lokaler Sportarten in der Gemeinde beteiligt, zu denen auch Hockey und Baseball gehörten. Er liebte es zu angeln, zu jagen und ein oder zwei Partien Golf zu spielen. Selbst als er mit seiner kürzlichen Krankheit kämpfte, brachte er seine Familie und das Personal des St. Vincent Nursing Home mit einem kleinen Witz und einem Lächeln zum Lachen. Die Familie möchte sich bei den Mitarbeitern von SVNH für die mitfühlende Fürsorge bedanken, die Warren in den letzten Monaten zuteil wurde. Eine Feier des Lebens findet am Donnerstag, den 3. November, von 13 bis 15 Uhr in der Somme Branch 31 Legion und von 16 bis 18 Uhr im Buffalo Club, 2 Wentworth St., Dartmouth, statt. Spenden zum Gedenken an Warren können an das Saint Vincent's Nursing Home für das Musiktherapieprogramm geleistet werden. Keine Blumen auf Wunsch der Familie.
